What's an E# note?

For practical intents and purposes the note one fret above E is F. But in some cases this is referred to as E#. This requires a bit more information than I cover in my guitar theory book. Let me explain...

The key of C consists of:
C D E F G A B

The key of C# consists of the same notes all one fret higher. You can just put a sharp sign (#) next to each note:
C# D# E# F# G# A# B#

In this case, some type of E note must follow the D because the notes are always used in order. Also, you can't call E# F because the next note has to be some type of F and you can't have two Fs in a row.
