Metronome speed in my mind

About guitar scales. How to learn and use the pentatonic scale to play melodies, riffs, lead guitar solos, bass lines and songs. How to map the fretboard and connect pentatonic scale patterns. Plus music theory and how to play over chords and progressions.

Metronome speed in my mind

Postby chad4ta on Sat Nov 08, 2008 10:20 am

I have been using a metronome to practice going up and down the pentatonic scale. I am tring to develope speed and coordination, so each day I speed it up a little bit.

I am now able to play notes acurately at about 150 to 160 beats per minute. This is a great improvement considering a couple of days ago I was struggling at 130. Anyway, am experienceing a strange sensation when I play at the faster speeds. If I'm not playing the beats seem relatively fast. However, when I start playing the scales over the beat, the beat seems to slow down in my mind. I am not on drugs and am relatively sane. Has anybody else experienced this sensation?

Just curious.

Never heard of this one. Perhaps you're passing through some kind of time warp or something?

I know this phenomenon. When I hear the metronom klicks at 156 bpm it sounds very fast to me. When I start to play a fingerpicking peace it seem to slow down, I hear each klick allone and I am able to place the notes probberly on the klicks, before the klicks ore behind the klicks were ever it't needed.
