LAYLA...major minor

Just need a little asurety with regards to Layla. Derek and the Dominoes. I have read the thread on Layla with regards to the dm pentatonic scale, which gladly to read after playing around with it; in f major, and dm pentatonic. I found that the pentatonic scale seem to give more flow. So correct me, the song goes into C#m and here I used the C#m pentatonic scale to play the melody which again flowed for me? Not sure I understand your question correctly but I'll try to answer it anyway.

The guitar solo to Layla by Eric Clapton is played over the chords Dm, Bb and C. These chords are vi IV V (6 4 5) from the F major scale. So you can play F major scale patterns over the whole thing (creating D Aeolian mode or D natural minor). And because the Dm chord is functioning as the root, you can also just play D minor pentatonic over the whole progression.

I teach about roots, keys and applying guitar scales correctly in Fretboard Theory Chapter 7.
