I'm studying guitar theory for too many years now and could never get the hang of how it really works until I got a book called guitar theory by desi serna....what a great guy and good teacher too. It's really cool to see how music works. Today I learned that the pentatonic scale has two different totalities, major and minor. This is explained well in a book called Fretboard Theory by Desi Serna. Check out the free information available at http://Guitar-Music-Theory.com. It's worth a visit."

I agree, the book is awesome. It's been 10 years of lessons and books by other instructors that never really put everything together like Desi did. I use it everyday.
Desi is an excellent technical writer. I should know I'm one also (in aerospace).
Just joking, I'm not self promoting here.
As far as two parts to the pentatonic scale goes, major and minor, I wasn't really sure of that also until I read guitar theory. So, there we go!
